OK so this is the second page of my Fencing Pages, what does it have to offer?
Initially, a few extra bits of fencing information, one serious, and two anything but.
The Art of Coarse Fencing was a series of three articles that appeared in The Sword (the magazine of the Amateur Fencing Association - as it then was - between 1974 and 1976).
A little explanation of the term Coarse Fencing might be in order at this time. It gets its original form from Coarse Fishing in the first instance, but also refers to a series of books called "The Art of Coarse ....." where "......." was any one of several sports, which described the sport in question in terms of the way in which it was played by amateurs playing for their own enjoyment at weekends. A quote from the introduction to The Art of Coarse Cricket by
COARSE CRICKET, which is often seen but seldom believed, is like coarse fishing: a pastime intended primarily for the almost exclusive unskilled enjoyment of those who proatise it. It is a sport more remarkable for the enthusiasm then for the aptitude of its players and is best played against breweries
